Description

In our club's August monthly lecture, Cal Powell mentioned IC 1295, a "green eye" planetary nebula in Scutum that I hadn't heard of. It's very close to globular cluster NGC 6712, but I couldn't quite squeeze both of them comfortably into the same frame, so I decided to shoot them separately as a mosiac. Since it was a very transparent night, I started with IC 1295 but cloudy nights and scheduling conflicts have prevented me from getting the globular. But I still scored a bonus...

Even in the individual exposures, it's hard to miss the bright teal dot of another planetary nebula to the right of IC 1295: 14th magnitude Sanduleak 2-374!
